MICHAEL DWECK : THE SURFING LIFE
May 30 – JULY 15

Blitz International is pleased to announce the first major one-man gallery show of Michael Dweck in Tokyo. Executed between 2002 and 2004, these works consist of images from his critically acclaimed book, “The End: Montauk, NY” (Harry N. Abrams, 2004). Selected work from his “Three” series will be on view as well.

Drawing inspiration from his teenage years spent by the beach on Long Island, Dweck set out to photographically capture the vanishing surf culture of Montauk, a sleepy fishing village that in the 1970s became a haven for East Coast surfers. These works are a photographic chronicle and nostalgic tribute to that hedonistic surf community. “The ultimate homage to the sun-kissed surfing life. Sensuous, seductive and unbearably sexy in its effect,” in the words of The New York Times.

Michael Dweck was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1957. He has won numerous awards, including the coveted Gold Lion at the Cannes International Festival. Two of his long-form television pieces are part of the permanent film collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
