Some documentary-makers are bound to feel an affinity for people who go foraging through quaint, rustic terrain in search of morsels that can be served to consumers proud of their good taste. It’s in that spirit that the directors Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw have crafted this study of eccentric old Italian men who know where to find truffles in the forests of Piedmont. With its handsome scenery, loveable codgers and cute dogs it’s a movie that wears its calculations fairly openly, but they still work. They have intelligence behind them, and they produce a beguiling film.
