After exploring the lives of elderly Italian villagers hunting rare truffles with their canine companions in THE TRUFFLE HUNTERS, acclaimed documentarians Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw train their cameras on a rural Argentine community of gauchos — skilled cowboys determined to maintain their traditional way of life in the face of encroaching modernity. Their days are spent taming majestic horses, herding bovine wards, sewing intricate yet practical clothing, imparting age-old wisdom to the next generation and, for one young gaucha in training, defending her choice to wear her traditional outfit instead of a bland school uniform. Dweck and Kershaw pay deserved tribute to their subjects through an immensely cinematic work comprised of sumptuous black-and-white photography, impeccable compositions and an eclectic soundtrack of South American folk classics. DIR/PROD Michael Dweck, Gregory Kershaw; PROD Christos V. Konstantakopoulos, Cameron O'Reilly, Matthew Perniciaro. U.S./Argentina, 2024, b&w, 84 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. NOT RATED
